Painting 7/30: "Summer Days"....a little behind schedule

"Summer Days"
6"x6"
Oil on Board
$175

I had to take a day off yesterday.  I was out of town overnight Monday and woke up with a TERRIBLE headache!!  I slept all day yesterday, so I didn't paint.  I'll either double up one day or extend this 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge to January 31st!

Struggling with what to paint today, I went to the Daily Paintworks website.  I knew that every week the artists there post a challenge and this week's is painting summer.  Perfect since it is absolutely freezing here and everywhere else.  I hope this warms you up a bit.  It did me as it made me remember hot summer mornings, picking out watermelon and peaches at the Montgomery Curb Market.

So, here's the 7th painting of the challenge...a challenge within a challenge.

Day 22/30: V is for Veggies

"Veggie Pickers"
4"x 4"
Oil on Canvas
$100

Here is a little scene from one of my favorite places to paint...the Montgomery Curb Market...where you can find the freshest vegetables around!  You can find wonderful things all year long, but things really hop here in the summer months where we all go home with bags of corn, squash, tomatoes, peas, okra.  I usually go just with the intention of getting maybe peas and tomatoes, but walk out with enough to keep me cooking all weekend and eating all week!

So, I'm glad painting through the alphabet brings me to the letter "V" and gives me a chance to paint it again on the last day of summer....I think fall just started a few minutes ago actually!

'All Things Southern' Feature: "A Couple of Tomatoes"

"A Couple of Tomatoes"
12"x16"
Oil on Panel

Country living in the city!  Thank the Lord for the curb market!
The nearby farmers make sure there's plenty to choose from all year long, but in the summer - oh, in the summer! - we have tomatoes, squash, peas, okra, corn, watermelon, peaches....need I go on?  All the fixin's for the best meal imaginable!
We load up on Saturday morning and enjoy it all on Sunday afternoon!

In the fall, you'll find the best pumpkins and pecans here!
At Christmastime, the whole place is filled with the smell of evergreens and kindling.  Oh, and don't forget to pick some homemade divinity or a red velvet cake!
Strawberries and daffodils are my spring favorites!

I went there with my grandmother and grandfather when I was just a little girl
and it hasn't changed much in all this time.
Again, it's that connection to the land.  It is handed to us even in the middle of downtown.

As far as art goes, our Montgomery Curb Market is one of my favorite subjects to paint.  The textures and colors and the figures all are so interesting to me.  There's a challenge with the light spilling into the building from all sides, but a challenge I enjoy!

Cool as a Cucumber *SOLD*

What a perfect Saturday morning!  The weather is great...unusually cool temperatures in Montgomery this morning met me on my trip to the Montgomery Curb Market for fresh corn, tomatoes, cucumbers and squash.  Sunday dinner will be something to look forward to!

Now....time to paint!  Have a great weekend!

Marketing 101 *SOLD*

This small painting just sold to someone who loves the Montgomery Curb Market like I do! I titled this one "Marketing 101" because the older man on the left seemed to really be telling the younger one how it's done! I love the curb market...all the color, texture, pattern, people and light spilling in! My grandparents took me there as a little girl for fresh produce and I still go today...it's a wonderful Montgomery tradition whatever the season!

Happy First Day of Summer! *SOLD*

Here's a painting of the Montgomery Curb Market to celebrate the first day of summer...although it's felt like summer around here since the beginning of May! Enjoy the day! Eat some watermelon, catch some lightning bugs, and remember the days when you were having so much fun the heat didn't bother you!

Down to Earth *SOLD*

I made a trip to the Curb Market today and it was packed even on a Tuesday morning! Montgomery loves its Curb Market! I came home loaded with tomatoes, peas and corn. This painting honors the ones who bring this to our tables. Thank you, farmers!!!

Counting My Blessings *SOLD*

A summertime painting entitled "Curb Market Color", but I wanted to post it now because it embodies so much of what I'm thankful for! The beauty and bounty of the earth, food on our table, jobs, our country, the seasons. Our curb market is so full of memories for me, too - trips with my grandparents, my mother, my sisters - such happy times!
