Working still today on loosening up, leaving things alone, not losing the sketchy quality that I love while still refining things that I want to....it's a narrow little road to walk on. Today, though, I was also painting with someone in mind.  The birthday boy....Vincent Van Gogh.  Yes, if he was still with us, he'd be 161 today, March 30.  So many things he taught us artists - living with rejection, with no sales, lack of respect, but also with great joy, a love of color, a love of nature, love of creating!  

I love his story because of his great passion in spite of his circumstances!

Today I am painting some additional pieces to take with me to "Art on the Lake", an annual event at Children's Harbor on Lake Martin, Alabama.  This is my first time participating in the event and I am so excited!  I'm ready to kickoff summer and what better way to do it than with art at the lake?!

So, with summer on my mind, I thought sunflowers and watermelon would be a great thing to paint for the next few days.  

 

Over the weekend, I landed on a GREAT canvas sale and am now all stocked up with a variety of sizes and I actually managed to CLEAN UP MY STUDIO!!!  I feel much more energized now and raring to paint!

Since I am challenging myself with glass - and the new additional challenge of flowers - I thought I'd try this set up of primary colors.  I did something similar at a Qiang Huang workshop in the fall and I really liked it.  The canvas I used is Fredrix Dixie Cotton and I just love it!  When I felt it I thought, "Oh, no, this is going to tear up my brushes!"....it seems really rough....but I love the texture!  I'll be ordering more of this!
